Wellness is a pivotal aspect of an employee's work-life experience, directly influencing their productivity, engagement, and overall satisfaction. In a bid to go beyond the typical one-off events like World Health Days, and to foster a more holistic approach to wellness, we embarked on building a comprehensive initiative: our Ways of Wellness.

Going Beyond a Single Day

Understanding that wellness encompasses multifaceted dimensions, the MAD Wellness Initiative aims to delve deeper into these topics in a more approachable manner. Recognising that wellness is not a one-size-fits-all solution, the initiative strived to cater to the diverse needs and preferences of all employees.

Ways of Wellness

We designed our Ways of Wellness around four core pillars: emotional, physical, social, and developmental wellness. These pillars have long been recognised, but we wanted to tailor them to fit our unique culture and needs.

Each pillar is tied to a specific initiative: 'MAD FEELS' for emotional wellness, which focuses on curated resources for fostering emotional safety, such as our Employee Assistance Programmes; 'MAD BODIES' for physical wellness, which leverages our private medical cover and wellness contributions; 'MAD TIMES' for social wellness, which encompasses team get-togethers, crafts, and clubs; and 'MAD SKILLS' for developmental wellness, which improves signposting for our Learning & Development resources, while fostering a culture where people have the space to develop both professionally and personally.

Empowering Leaders

Ensuring our existing benefits are being used to their full potential is just one area of the Product Madness Ways of Wellness. We also recognise the important role that people leaders play in promoting wellness within their teams. As such, we provided training for our managers on how to lead with wellness in mind, equipping them to navigate stressful situations, manage individual circumstances, and foster a positive work environment.

Wellness Champions

In addition, we appointed champions across the globe to drive the Ways of Wellness at ground level.

Dedicated to a specific wellness pillar, our champions are well-versed and passionate about creating a culture and community where people can be their very best. Whether they have organised Mad meet-ups and socials before, are experts in all things exercise, or are masters in meditation, these individuals serve as ambassadors.

The Wellness Mascot

In our quest to make wellness more engaging and relatable, we introduced a Wellness Mascot - Winnie the Wizard. Our beloved frog was chosen by our employees, and serves not just as a fun symbol but as a way to keep wellness front of mind, adding a touch of creativity and personalisation to our initiative.

Resources at a Click’s Distance

The journey to wellness starts with awareness. To streamline access to curated resources, we put together an online hub where people can search and find answers to their burning wellness questions,- from how to look after your posture when working at home, to stress management techniques.

People in Product Madness share a lot of valuable content across our internal communication channels, and part of the rationale behind creating a centralised hub was to build a space where that valuable content can live, eliminating the risk of it getting lost in a sea of emails or Slack messages.

Conclusion

Our Ways of Wellness is a proactive approach towards nurturing a wellbeing culture, where we hope to shift perspective from wellness being just another thing we talk about, to a way of being that drives decisions. Like all cultural shifts that have been designed to make a difference, the Ways of Wellness are in a constant state of listening and improvement, where we work together to maintain a workforce that is not only productive but also happy, healthy, and thriving.
